Each individual's life is like a book that reveals, through time, information and changes of its subject. The table of contents may contain chapters of happiness and struggles and everything in between. In some ways, each New Year's Day marks a new chapter unfolding with resolutions regarding finances topping the list.
In the story of Katrina Spelding, the topic of finances began at an early age and didn't cease until the day she drew her final breath. As a child, Katrina was exposed to two different ways of approaching money.
Katrina's father, who was a wise and learned businessman, always managed money tightly and was what some would call thrifty. However, he was not thrifty in the least. He bought a beautiful home for his family, took them on wonderful yet modest vacations, and saw to it that all his family's needs were met to the fullest. He gave to church and charities alike, always thinking of the welfare of others.
Katrina's mother, though holding Katrina's father in the utmost respect, disagreed with the way he spent money. She knew how much they had in savings from the past years and thought it did them no good sitting in the bank. She enjoyed shopping and found great pleasure in buying things for other people. She had a profusely loving and selfless heart. Like her husband, she had a passion for church and for their favorite charity, and agreed on giving a large sum of money to both organizations.
As the years passed and Katrina grew older, she was torn about how to handle her finances. She decided to work closely with a financial advisor who helped her sort through her thoughts concerning the pros and cons of different methods of spending, saving and giving. The New Year offered her an ideal opportunity to write a new chapter in her life and recommit herself to helping others.
